Washington D.C.School Historic Trip Day 1

We had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. and New York City.  I had never been there other than in an airport or two so it doesn't really count as having been there at all.

We flew into the Baltimore, MD, airport the night of Monday the 21st of March.  We met the group from Oregon at the airport and our tour guide who's name was Greg.  It was really late by eastern time and we still had about an hour to get to the hotel.  We spent the night at a Sheraton in Rockville, Maryland.  We got up early and ate breakfast that the hotel put in a room for our group and off we went.

Our tour guide was a nice guy named Greg and it was  chop chop chop let's move.  We really didn't get much time to take photos but we did see a lot.  The photos below are of the first day in Washington D.C.

Karen and her usual banter as we are waiting for the bus.

Eric talking to Mr. Nelson, the teacher who put the trip together

Now we are on the bus.  This is Greg the tour guide

My first view of Washington D.C. was the Washington Monument.  We are on the bus and will soon cross a bridge into DC

The Jefferson Memorial as we are entering DC

Getting of the bus in DC and walking toward the Whitehouse

At the White House.  Elizabeth on the right was Katy, Macey and Kylie's roomate

A statue in the park to the north of the White House.  I think it might be LaFayette but I cannot remember.

Is Macey thinking of stealing that cop car?

Magnolia trees were blossoming everywhere

Getting back on the bus

In line to the Smithsonian Space and Air Museum.  Every building you went into they searched you.  This one was just like getting on a plane.  A lot of others just made you empty  your pockets and then looked into your bags.

Heading to the Holocaust Museum

The story of Daniel inside the Holocaust museum was touching.  The Jews were branded with a gold star back then and were not allowed to go anywhere until they were all finally forced into concentration camps

Walking past the Washington Monument and toward the World War 2 monument

World War 2 Memorial

Cherry trees as we walk around toward FDR's Memorial.  These Cherry trees are the offspring of the original cherry trees planted here.
