New York City for the first time

After the statue of Iwo Jima, the tour guide herded and prodded us to get back on the bus.  He told us to go to the bathroom because we were going to have a long drive.  I thought it was a pleasant drive as we drove up through the north part of Virginia into Delaware.  We stopped in Delaware at a train station that had a big food court to get something to eat.  Me and Katy got Popeyes chicken while Macey ate Burger King.  We had never had Popeyes before and Katy really liked it.  Mine was a little lame as I didn't understand the menu and I ended up with some kind of cajun fish.

We got back on the bus after eating and continued on our way.  About an hour later we could see the outline of the New York City Skyline.   The buildings were quite impressive.  We continued on in and crossed into New York City via the Lincoln Tunnel.  We were headed directly to the Empire State Building.  I am amazed that such a big bus could maneuver through New York City.  Surprisingly the streets were laid out very square so it didn't seem like it would be very hard to drive in compared to something like Boston.

The Empire State Building was really neat.  We went all the way up on the elevators which seemed to take forever.  We had to go up so far and then switch elevators to go up further and each time there would be a long line.  We ended up taking the stairs on the last six floors because the wait would have been long.  It was kind of  tiring.  The view was fantastic.  I've never been to New York and its so neat that my girls could see it at such a young age.  I am jealous, yet happy that they get these opportunities.

Me and Macey hung out on top going around it and taking photos of the city 360 degrees.  It was a little frustrating as there was a lot of fog and clouds.  The pictures didn't turn out too hot but after processing I was able to dim the fog a little bit and you can see the city more.  We hung up on top for at least a half hour and maybe a full hour.  When we were done we found Katy and Kylie and went down the elevators to the bottom.  We waited outside on the street by the building until the entire group was there.  Once we were all reassembled our  job was now to go find a place to eat.  It was our job to find and taste the culture and food of New York City.  The tour guide said there were a number of places along that street and on the next one over.  We saw the usual fast food stuff but decided to go into a real New York pizzeria.  The pizza was really good.  They were giant slices of thin crust pizza with all kinds of toppings imaginable.  I cannot remember what kind Macey had but it made her sick later creating a really funny tale.

We rode the bus back to the hotel which was in New Jersey.  Macey, Kylie, Katy and another girl named Elizabeth were still sharing a hotel room.  Macey was feeling sick from the pizza and threw it up in the toilet.  The bad thing is somebody had clogged up the toilet already so she puked in an already nasty toilet.  The other girls were getting in bed and she didn't know what to do so she texted me and told me she had thrown up.  The toilet was clogged but I told her to come over.  I made sure she was ok and by then she was feeling better, so we decided to send her back to her room and she would try to unplug the toilet.

Macey went back to the room and found that she had left her key inside.  She started knocking but there was no answer.  She came back to my room and told me that the girls inside would not open the door.  I then tried calling Katy, who did not answer.  Then I tried calling their room on the hotel phone.  It being a landline classic phone I figured the ring would wake them up.  I rang it 30 times, no answer.  I rang it again and again and again.  (Turns out they were scared to answer it even though they said they were asleep.)  I was getting so frustrated that I called Teresa and had her try to call them.  They still didn't answer.  Teresa or I called or texted Karen (I can't remember which) but she could not get them to open up.  I was getting furious.  Macey went and pounded on the door again.  No answer.  Finally I told her just to sleep with me and those girls could have a puky, poopy clogged toilet all night.
