Roberts Family Reunion Wednesday Evening June 27, 2018 (2nd Post)

As I said in the previous blog, the first to arrive at Sublette were David and Morgan and their families.  Our family arrived Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m., which was about the same time LouAnne and Troy showed up.  As we were pulling off the highway I saw their camper parked at the creepy little gas station at the Sublette exit.  We pulled off to the side to wait for them to see what kind of fun they had had in the store.  As they were pulling onto the road Troy and Shaelynn were in front, saw us and pulled up next to us.  They were laughing  as they had had the fine Nazi treatment experience about using the bathroom in that gas station.

We pulled into the Sublette Campground shortly after and found us a spot to put up our tent.  It was in the back over by the creek which is close to where we had set up our tent in prior years.  It looked like we might get a little bit of shade by going in between two very large willow bushes.  Brendon and his family showed up sometime not long after us.  We set up our tent and unloaded the Arctic Cat.  Grace, Josiah, Kurtlen and Elwin came over to say hi.  They were kind of playing in the bushes while we were setting up our tent when we all heard a big squeaking sound.  The boys saw a mouse under the willow bush making the noise.  At first they did not see the snake wrapped around it and starting to swallow it.  The snake was pretty big and that very large squeaky mouse was going down its throat in a hurry.  I think it may have been a garter snake but it was hard to tell as it was in the shadows.

Macey and Katy did not come on the trip, so it was just me, Teresa and Quinn.  All of LouAnne and Troy's family were here as well as Brendon and his family.  Morgan had all his and David had all his but Pearson.   Jon had all his kids except for Dakota who's still on a mission.

The plan for dinner that night was tinfoil dinners.  We put  our dinners together and walked over to Morgan's camp where he already had a pretty good fire going.  Jon had just taken his dinners off so we put ours on in his place.  I was sitting there turning them over with my gloves on and Teresa and Quinn were sitting in chairs visiting with Lily.  Logan had a marshmallow and was  roasting it.  All of a sudden Lily is frantically looking for water.  I was not sure why at first but then saw Evelyn crying and realized there was a flaming marshmallow stuck to her knee.  I grabbed it with my gloves and flung it off.  Teresa had a water bottle and we doused it good.  They put some neosporin and some bandages on it and it seemed to heal pretty fast over the week.   It turned out that Logan's marshmallow had caught on fire and he didn't really want it after that so he flung it off and it landed right on Evelyn.
Me and Logan planned on dressing the same, except he wore the wrong hat.

As it was dusk was starting I decided to try my Tenkara rod on the little creek.  Earlier I had seen a pretty large fish dart up under the bank in one of the holes.  I figure the fish are quite spooky there because so many people try to catch them.  My Tenkara rod is 13 feet long and does not use a reel, so all you got to do is hold the rod out and drop the line over the bank.  I caught a small brook right off the bat but spooked the rest of the fish in the hole because it got tangled in weeds right by the hole so I had to go up to it to take it off.
Me and my little brookie.
The video makes it look like I took forever getting the hook out, but I did and I put it back and it swam away healthily.

We had a nice evening and there was a good sunset.  The moon came up bright and almost kept us up all night.  Sometime in the evening Jeremy came up with his camper and parked it in a spot.  It turned out to be a good idea as there were a lot of people pulling in and looking for places to camp.

Here's another preview photo of the day at Steadman's.  There is a quiz in the caption.  If you get it right it is worth a prize.

Holly, Shaelyn and Liza are riding the unicorn down.   They did many different runs together.  In this particular run:  Do they A: crash and burn in a series of tumultous spins and slides?  Or B: make it all the way down, still on the unicorn.  Or C: Tip over before they even get a third of the way down.  Or D:  They get to the bottom in one piece only to be pummeled by Seth.   Once again if you get the answer right it is worth a candy bar or equal treat of your choice.  Please email me with your best answer.
